As my winter break comes to a close, and I look out on the crashing Carolina waves in a misty pink and purple sky, I can't help to find my way to that special, introspective place where everything feels okay. I fly back to Oklahoma City tomorrow, to resume work and then to go to a NYE party. Thinking about the year in retrospect, I realize I have a lot to be thankful for. A lot of great things happened, and a lot of terrible things happened, in 2009, but the underlying theme is the fallout leaves a wonderful cast of friends and family behind, despite understudies that come and ago and hardships endured throughout the performance. I can't say I have no regrets about what transpired this year, but I can say that I feel confident I did the best I could given the situations I was presented, and that I'm wiser for the wear.

When it comes to resolutions, of course, the popular one of losing weight and getting into shape will too be near the top of my list. But, it's secondary to a lesson relearned: to never take for granted the people in your life. You never know when people are going to get off your bus, so have a great ride with them while you can. That's my priority one to keep in mind as I go along into 2010. I wish everyone the very best for a prosperous and fulfilling new year, with good friends and times to be had by all. See you on the other side.

Talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower
Makes you talk a little lower
About the things you could not show him

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass
